2026 Maine State Championship and Open

The fourth Maine State Go Championship and Open was on August 23rd, 2026, at Think Tank in Portland.

The Maine Go Club held its fourth State Championship August 23rd. Ten players from across the state competed for the title. Aaron Pettengil played as white against Glen Gallik in the final and became state champion for the second time.

Who: A tournament open to all members of the AGA! Joining the AGA typically costs $30; if you’re joining as a Maine resident, contact us to get a discount code. The tournament is free for new AGA members.
(All attendees will be credited 50% off registration for the New England Open, Sept 4-6!)

Round two of the tournament.

What: Three rounds of games, AGA rules, 20 minutes plus 20 seconds Fischer time. Everyone is eligible to play all rounds, and all rounds will count toward prizes at the end of the day.
Maine State Championship: A knockout tournament for up to 8 of the highest ranked Maine residents. Players get knocked out will play Open games in subsequent rounds. The winner will be crowned Maine State Champion.
Maine Open: A McMahon tournament open to all AGA members. As much as possible, players will play even games against opponents of a similar rank.

When: August 23rd, 2026.

Why: A chance to meet and challenge Go players in the region as well as to take part in the prestigious 50-State Championship. We’ll have coffee & snacks in the morning; there are several of good choices for lunch in easy walking distance. Games will count toward AGA rankings.
